AI Opportunities in Schools
School children and parents explore the educational potential of AI: learning tools for studying new materials, homework preparation, and creating educational projects.
Participation in the first day of the forum is only available to Clarity School students and their parents.
Presentations by experts on "AI in Education" discussions, and debates on the main ethical aspects of AI in civic and school education, Q&A sessions with school teachers, civic activists, and educators.
A workshop for creating AI educational materials for schools. Participants will develop scenarios for themed weeks and visual materials for educational events in schools. The hackathon is open to AI-in-education experts, school teachers, and civic activists.
Hackathon results will be published in an open-source format and shared with schools worldwide.

Was a middle school teacher, Education Technology researcher and Learning Developer in the IT sector. With +20 years of experience bridging pedagogy with technology to explore enhanced teaching and learning processes that are inclusive and culturally sensitive.
Currently, focused on helping schools and teachers integrate AI responsibility and ethically to promote innovation in education. Holds a Post Doctorate and PhD focused on education technology.
José Manuel Sotero
PhD Candidate in Digital Media at NOVA Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities Topic of presentation: Artificial Intelligence in Education: the Facts, the Stats, and the EU Playbook
José Manuel Sotero is a doctoral candidate in Digital Media at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of NOVA University Lisbon, where he also earned a Master’s degree in Communication Sciences.
Currently, José is a visiting professor at NOVA FCT and NOVA FCSH and co-organiser of the training program "Artificial Intelligence for Education," promoted by the iNOVA Media Lab (ICNOVA). As a doctoral researcher, he is part of the iNOVA Media Lab, OBI.Media, and is a founding member of the Social Observatory for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Data.
José also maintains close ties with the industry, serving as AI Integration Manager at Havas Portugal Group and, as a consultant, collaborating on projects for diagnosing and integrating AI tools into production processes, particularly in companies within the Cultural and Creative sectors.
Anastasia Tmur
Senior Project Manager at Yandex, AI expert, content strategist Topic of presentation: AI basics for kids. What is AI and why is it needed?
The presentation will take place at the closed day of the forum, January 24th.
Anastasia Tmur is an experienced educator and AI-driven content creator who has spent over 15 years enhancing school education through modern technologies.
With a Master’s degree in Mathematics, she expertly combines traditional teaching methods with advanced AI tools, making learning both accessible and engaging.
In doing so, Anastasia helps students develop strong critical thinking skills while fostering a wider appreciation and understanding of emerging technologies.
Outcomes
The forum will produce a toolkit that includes material on the topic "AI in schools":
Scenarios for themed weeks in schools
Posters for use in classes, events, and school space decoration
A selection of open-access materials on AI risks and opportunities for schoolchildren
The toolkit will be published in March 2025 on the Jornada website.
Forum organizers
Association Jornada Convidativa is a Portuguese non-profit organization dedicated to the development of civic education with a focus on students, teachers, and the migrant community. We assist new migrants in a smooth integration into Portuguese society.
A private primary school and education center that opened in Lisbon in July 2023. It is a social entrepreneurship project. Clarity School works with families who have moved to Portugal from other countries and are going through a long journey of adaptation in a new country. We organize Portuguese and English courses, family activities, meetings with interesting people, learning Portuguese culture and traditions.
The Civic Innovation Fund (CIF) is a unique European pooled fund of THE CIVICS Innovation Hub. It pioneers new ideas in civil society, enhances their visibility, and integrates them into NECE, a growing pan-European network of civic educators. The fund supports start-up ideas in civic education that apply interdisciplinary and inclusive approaches to promote resilience, diversity, and collaboration in democracy.
